Pfeiffer Center for Biodynamics and the Environment is part of the
Threefold Foundation and
Sunbridge College, located in the Village of
Chestnut Ridge, (formerly Spring Valley) New York, 2 miles north of the New
York/New Jersey border, 11 miles from the Tappan Zee Bridge, and 18 miles from
the George Washington Bridge, near the intersection of the Garden State Parkway
and the New York State Thruway (Route 87).
BY CAR, FROM THE SOUTH
Take the Garden State Parkway north to Exit 172 (Grand Avenue), the last
exit in New Jersey. Turn left at the bottom of the ramp, go under the overpass
and turn right at the stoplight onto Chestnut Ridge Road (Route 45). Continue
about two miles, through two traffic lights, across the New York State border
and a third traffic light. Just past the first sign for Green Meadow Waldorf
School on your left, turn left onto Hungry Hollow Road. |

BY CAR, FROM THE NORTH OR EAST
Take the New York State Thruway (Route 87) to Exit 14A (Garden State
Parkway). Take the first exit (Schoolhouse Road), turn right at the stop sign
and go to the stoplight at Chestnut Ridge Road (Route 45). Turn left, then take
the first right turn onto Hungry Hollow Road. (The Hungry Hollow Co-op and Green
Meadow Waldorf School are on the north and south corners of Hungry Hollow Road.)

AS YOU GO DOWN HUNGRY HOLLOW ROAD:
- The second driveway on your left is the entrance to the
Green Meadow Waldorf School’s
Nursery/Kindergarten parking lot.
- Just past the bottom of the hill on your left is the
parking lot for short-term visitors to the Main House, which houses the
Sunbridge College offices, dining room and Teacher Training Room. The
Brookside Building is there as well. On the right side of the road is the
Pfeiffer Center garden, but there is no parking near the garden.
- Orchard Lane, the first actual street on your left, is the
entrance for Holder House (the student dormitory) and the main parking lot.
- 100 yards further on your right, opposite the entrance to
the Fellowship Community, is the entrance to the Threefold Auditorium.
AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

VIA NEWARK AIRPORT (YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY TRY TO FLY
INTO NEWARK)
If you arrive on a weekday, you can make inexpensive and convenient bus
connections to the Port Authority Terminal on 41st Street in New York City,
(212) 564-8484 (these buses leave the airport frequently and take about twenty
minutes). From there you can catch a Red & Tan Lines commuter bus to Spring
Valley. Go to ticket windows 11-15. Bus #11A will take an hour and a half to get
you to the Spring Valley Bus Terminal, which is a 10-minute taxi ride from
Hungry Hollow Road. During rush hours, Bus #45 will take less than an hour to
drop you off on Route 45, at the top of Hungry Hollow Road (this is a request
stop; you must speak to the driver).
The bus fares
are $7.35; the taxi ride may
be a little more. The bus drivers won’t accept large bills.
THE AIR BROOK EXPRESS SHUTTLE
Operates
from 5:00 am to midnight, seven days a week, between Newark and the Montvale
Transportation Center in New Jersey, where you can arrange for pick-up or call a
taxi ($10) to take you to Hungry Hollow Road. Just call 1-800-432-1826 after you
arrive and Air Brook will instruct you from there. The fare is $30, $55 for a
round trip. Skyway Limo will take up to four people directly to Threefold from
Newark for $55. Call 1-800-300-3356 for a reservation.
VIA KENNEDY OR LAGUARDIA AIRPORTS
From JFK:
New York
Airport Service Express Bus to connecting bus service at the Port Authority Bus
Terminal (PABT) (718) 875-8200 $15 plus connecting bus service. Every 15-30
minutes, 6:15 AM to 11:10 PM. 45-65 minutes, longer peak hours.
From LaGuardia:
New York
Airport Service Express Bus to connecting bus service at the Port Authority Bus
Terminal (PABT) (718 )875-8200 $12 plus connecting bus service. Every 20-30
minutes, 6:40 AM to 11:40 PM.
VIA PENNSYLVANIA STATION OR GRAND CENTRAL STATION
You can catch uptown or crosstown subways to the Port Authority Bus Terminal on
41st Street. From there, follow the directions in the first paragraph above for
taking the Red & Tan Bus Lines. There are also Metro North commuter trains to
Tarrytown, twenty minutes by taxi across the Hudson River from Spring Valley,
leaving from Grand Central Terminal. The closest Amtrak stop to Spring Valley is
Croton Harmon, about 45 minutes across the Hudson and north from Spring Valley.

The first bus arrives at 5:38am. Then at: 5:48,6:01,6:12,6:21,6:29,6:35,
6:43,6:49,6:56, 6:59, 7:02, 7:06, 7:09, 7:12, 7:19, 7:21, 7:25,7:29,7:35,
7:40, 7:47, 7:55, 8:02, 8: 16, 8:28, 8:41,9:07,9:44, 10:24.
The buses arrive at “Port Authority Bus Terminal” which is at 42nd St. and 8th
Ave. The trip is approximately one hour long.
- Afternoons
There are eight buses that go to the City: 3:05pm, 4:10, 4:45, 5:00, 5:20,
5:45, 6:15, 8:00.
Note. All buses leaving on weekdays are “commuter buses.” They do not run on
the weekends or holidays. For other times you must take the slower #11 bus
from Spring Valley Bus Station. The #11C, will also take you to the city, but
goes via the George Washington Bridge, to the George Washington Terminal in
upper Manhattan.
- Return Buses
From Port Authority: 2:45pm., 3:15, 3:40, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30,4:40, 5:00, 5:10,
5:15, 5:20, 5:35, 5:40, 5:55, 6:00, 6:10, 6:20, 6:30,
6:40,6:50,7:10,7:30,8:00, 8:35, 9:20.
If you plan to stay in the City after this time, you can catch
the #11 to Spring Valley, plus a taxi back to the campus. The last bus leaves
Port Authority at 12:3Oam.( weekends at 12:10am.)
Note :
The bus stop at
the Hungry Hollow Co-op is a request stop. You have to wave the driver down. On
the return trip, ask the driver to let you off at Hungry Hollow Road or press
the overhead buzzer.
Fare: The fare is around $7.35 one way. The drivers do not take large bills (No
$100 or $50 dollar bills).
